Osyris Sandalwood is a whole different creature. This is the true African sandalwood, from Tanzania. It is a very uncommon product and very little known in the industry. There is a few species of wood referred to as "African Sandalwood" but none of these other species contains any santalol. Osyris Sandalwood is a true distant relative of the Indian Santalum Album and also belongs to the greater family of Santalaceae. The wood used to be imported to India by some distillers and mixed with regular sandalwood to reduce the production cost, and was never given real credit as a stand alone product. But we truly believe that this product deserve its recognition, although the santalol content is lower than indian sandalwood, it cannot be compared "apple to apple", this is truly a unique variety of santalol producing trees. The oil is also know to contain small amounts of Agarofurans, which is usually common to Agarwood "Oud" oil, making this oils even more interesting in our opinion. It is really a journey of its own. A woody "Ouddy" type of sandalwood smell with a truly unique dimension.
